Gracias a Generacion El Colombiano!

inedible bandeja paisa!

This little dish is a bandeja paisa.  Bandeja paisa is the classic main dish from the coffee-growing region of Colombia, the historical Antioquia.  

It's a truly phenomenal amount of food:

steak

beans

rice

chorizo

fried plantain (patacon)

fried egg

chicharron (imagine a super-thick cut bacon, with the pork rind still attached, super pork!)

avocado

and an arepa (a thick corn patty that's somewhere between a thick tortilla and flat cornbread)

In short: an express ticket to a food coma.

We're so excited to be featured in today's style supplement of El Colombiano (a major newspaper in Colombia!), Generacion.  Muchas gracias y bienvenidos a todos!

My husband is originally from Medellin, Colombia, and we go to visit his family each year.  I became instagram friends with a Colombian foodie, Claudia Arias (foodies are the best people!), and the rest is history.

Northern Virginia Magazine mention

As avid readers of all things foodie (oh how we love Wednesdays for the New York Times and Washington Post food sections!), we were ecstatic when we were interviewed by Warren Rojas of Northern Virginia Magazine. We were doubly ecstatic to see the cute feature they did on our work in the February issue!



Thanks guys for the adorable photography, and the really sweet little feature. And way to go with the meaty burgers- those are some of our favorites too.

Ballston market this weekend!

This year, we're branching out of the Charlottesville market, to bring our goodies to customers a tad further north! We'll be at the Ballston Market every second Saturday of the month from May- October. This means we'll be there this weekend, May 10, from 10a -4p. You can even forgo the car, and Metro in: the market is right across the street from the Ballston Metro stop in Wellburn Square. We'll be there, with a bright red tent, red and white checkered tablecloths, and a bunch of yummy new goodies.

And we were thrilled this morning, when reading the Express to see our bacon & eggs cufflinks featured as the item announcing the market! We'll be sure to make lots of extras for this weekend, and if you're not a cuff link wearer, we'll even have a couple of bacon & eggs rings!

One of our favorite foodie blogs is Cupcakes Take the Cake, dedicated to all things cupcake. Seriously, we read the blog religiously and salivate over the photos on basically a daily basis. So, imagine our supreme delight when we discovered some really familiar cupcakes featured! Thank you guys, it made our week to see our cupcake charms on your blog! :)

We periodically cruise the internet checking to see who links to our shop or a specific goody that we've created. Somehow we've become classed as "new indie designers." This sounds flattering, and very hip, even if we're not sure what it means. :)

Nonetheless, we need to give a big thanks to the people over at nolestyle for linking to our etsy shop on their "new indie" page. It makes us feel cutting edge and cool. (Even if most of the time the reality of being an "indie designer" is coffee, more coffee, creating til the wee hours, paperwork, emails, filing, and putting packages to mail together. I don't know- does that still sound hip?)

We spent some time cruising through the remainder of their site, and they have some really cool taste- a tasty mixture of established and newer designers with a huge range in prices. We'll be very excited when they do a review of our work. We can't wait to see which of our goodies they are especially drawn to (are they cupcake people? sushi? burgers?)
